Level 0 Activity 1: Introduction to SISEP's Micro-credentialing Program

Prior to submitting your application for SISEP’s Micro-credentialing Program (Level 0 Activity 2), we recommend that you download and complete the attached checklist for Level 0 Activity 1: Introduction to SISEP's Micro-credentialing Program.

(You must be logged in to see the full downloadable checklist.)

Introduction to SISEP’s Micro-credentialing Program (0.1)

1. Review the Micro-credentialing Program Overview, including the Program Scope & Sequence, and watch the Micro-credentialing Overview Video to learn more about the Program.
The target audience for the Micro-credentialing Program includes:
  • K-12 Educational Leaders, those outside of the classroom coordinating system change efforts at the local, regional, and state levels
  • IHE (Institutes of Higher Education) faculty and students in educational programming
  • OSEP-funded TA Center staff
If/as we have expanded capacity in a cohort, our team can consider accepting otherwise qualified candidates who may also be a good fit for the Program.

Please note: The 2026-2027 year is anticipated to be the last year of the SISEP Micro-credentialing Program under the current grant funding. The Fall 2026 cohort will be the last cohort accepted to the SISEP Micro-credentialing Program at no cost. Accepted participants can continue to participate in the Program through May 31, 2027. At this time, NIRN is exploring a paid option that would allow continued participants beyond this date. Additional details will be shared at a later time. For questions, please contact sisepmicrocred@unc.edu.

2. Complete the Micro-credentialing Readiness Checklist to ensure that you’re ready for this Program.
We have provided this self-assessment so that you can determine if the SISEP Implementation Specialist Micro-credentialing Program is a good fit for you at this time. Take a few minutes to complete the Readiness Checklist. Before applying to the Micro-credentialing Program, we recommend that you are able to check all of the boxes in the document provided. This is a reflection tool; it is not designed to be submitted to the SISEP Team as part of your application to the Micro-credentialing Program.

If you find that you are not yet ready for the Micro-credentialing Program, we recommend that you spend some time familiarizing yourself with the items on the checklist. While you wait on the application window to open, you may also opt to explore the resources and tools on this checklist in greater depth.

3. Save the dates for important Program Dates and Timelines.
Check out the Micro-credentialing Platform for important dates for upcoming application windows, Communities of Practice, and more. We will update these dates on the Platform in an effort to keep this checklist “evergreen” for potential participants. (Once admitted into the Program, the SISEP Team will share calendar invites for virtual events.)

An estimated time commitment for each of the Levels is available via the SISEP Micro-credentialing Program Pacing Guides. Levels must be completed sequentially. Three CoPs are offered each Term (Spring and Fall), and attendance at two CoPs to earn the badge for each Level. Typically, participants can complete a Level within 3-4 months, but some opt to complete it within a year.

4. Ensure you can receive communications from the Micro-credentialing Team.
Our team will primarily communicate with you through this email address: sisepmicrocred@unc.edu. Communication will be sent through our Micro-credentialing Platform from no-reply@fpg.unc.edu. Please add these as contacts within your system and check your spam/junk folder to allow emails from us to reach you.

If you are interested in learning more about the program and would like to be included in emails about future offerings, please fill out this form: bit.ly/SISEPMCInterest.

5. Become familiar with how to submit documents on the Micro-credentialing Platform.
Use the downloadable checklist document to practice uploading and submitting documents to the Micro-credentialing Platform. Follow the instructions on the downloadable checklist.
